Finding Your Colour Voice - CAMBRIDGE - Nov 2024
This weekend workshop is one of a series taking place at venues around the UK. All events have the same aim: to explore and strengthen personal experience of colour, both as an art medium and as a way of living in the moment.
Structured using the same principles, methods and mindsets, each date and location will offer something different to participants. Tangible and transient sources of inspiration will vary as the workshop moves from place to place. Local stories, artefacts, and vernacular environments will change, as will class dynamics, seasonal light and weather. Suitable for all levels of experience and ability.
DATE: Sat 23 & Sun 24 November 2024.
TIME: 10am - 4pm each day.
VENUE: Cambridge Artworks, 5 Green's Rd, Cambridge, CB4 3EF, UK.
INSPIRATIONAL VISIT: Kettle's Yard, Castle St, Cambridge CB3 0AQ, UK (10-15 min walk from the studio). We will visit the house at Kettle's Yard during day 1 of the workshop (cost included in the workshop fee), where the art collection of Jim Ede, Tate curator and “friend of artists” is housed.
CAMBRIDGE WORKSHOP FOCUS: Finding and using colour palettes, exploring tonal value, making neutrals and greys using primary and secondary colours, observing colour interaction via abstraction and minimalism.
During our visit we will sketch and make notes paying particular attention to artists’ use of colour. Curation will also be of interest, with colours of found objects and furniture interacting with those of the collection. We will develop our observations using watercolour in a mindful manner when back in the studio.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Watercolour, gouache, graphite, coloured paper. Painting, drawing, collage, annotation.
Art supplies and light refreshments will be provided. Please bring your own lunch (a café or supermarket is walking distance from all venues).
Supper at a local restaurant on the Saturday evening will be optional (not included in the workshop price). Tansy will communicate with you via email about this sociable extra nearer the time.
