Finding Your Colour Voice - OXFORD - May 2025

£200.00

This weekend workshop is one of a series taking place at venues around the UK. All events have the same aim: to explore and strengthen personal experience of colour, both as an art medium and as a way of living in the moment.

Structured using the same principles, methods and mindsets, each date and location will offer something different to participants. Tangible and transient sources of inspiration will vary as the workshop moves from place to place. Local stories, artefacts, and vernacular environments will change, as will class dynamics, seasonal light and weather. Suitable for all levels of experience and ability.

DATE: Sat 10th & Sun 11th May 2025.
Time: 10am to 4pm each day.
VENUE: The Community Works, 21 Park End St, Oxford OX1 1HH, UK.

WORKSHOP FOCUS: Keeping a colour diary. This is an immersive studio-based workshop during which you will learn techniques for observing, recording and reflecting on colour, as encountered in everyday life.

The benefits of keeping a colour diary are multiple:
1. Repeatedly looking for, considering and documenting colour, including combinations and interactions, will strengthen your connection with it.
2. Over time, your colour diary will be a fascinating and enlightening resource about how you perceive and relate to colour. This may be useful in other creative projects or it may simply form an entertaining or reassuring record of seasons, thoughts and emotions.
3. The act of focusing mindfully on colour as it happens, will heighten your sense of being present in the here and now, which is known to reduce anxiety and increase creative thinking,

MATERIALS AND METHODS: Multi-sensory colour quiz*. Colour mixing with watercolour (guided and experimental). Exploring theories on colour interaction (using both coloured paper and watercolour). Writing about colour. Mixed media sketching and annotation. Mindful watercolour painting.

*Your personal take on colour is of prime importance, thus the workshop will commence with an exploration of stimuli (objects, images, scents, textures, and sounds) to uncover personal responses to and evocations of colour.

Art supplies and light refreshments will be provided. Please bring your own lunch (a café or supermarket is walking distance from all venues).

Supper at a restaurant in central Oxford on the Saturday evening will be an optional extra (not included in the workshop price). Tansy will communicate with you via email about this sociable extra nearer the time.
