Sketching Buddy

Novel viewfinder (6.3x10.4cm), plus a copy of "Finding Views - a Tiny Guide to Thumbnail Sketching", my instructional zine (7x10.5cm) containing tips and ideas for outdoor sketching, and a centrefold of suggested mixed media supplies.

This is an authentic Victorian "carte de visite" (calling card bearing a photographic portrait), with a hand cut square aperture for you to look through while sketching.

This entertaining device will keep you company while out sketching (but without chattering and distracting you). It will also help to simplify the act of observational or outdoor drawing, by helping you to deconstruct a scene into a series of cropped compositions. This method is especially useful when an array of visual and sensory information, or multiple sketched options, are sought. Or when abstraction and brevity are your aim.
